So you've got a business idea, and want to build a database to help transform your idea into a working information system? I can help with that. I have ten years of experience doing this kind of work, and have helped take start-ups with not much more than a business idea to a fully working highly transactional application supporting hundreds of thousands of lookups a day. Or if you already have your app up and running, but are facing database performance issues, I can assist in fixing that too. I have been known to take complex database operations running over 48 hours and bring run-time down to under 10 minutes, with better resulting data quality.
A few thoughts on my database design approach:
- The lifeblood of any information system is data (it is, after all, the "information" in information systems). - Data should be treated as sacrosanct. Meaning: do not lose data, ever, to anything. - Databases should be amazingly responsive; long running queries are anathema. - A database is part of a solution to a business problem. - Many database performance issues happen because of bad design. Avoid bad design, and save yourself expensive fixes later. - More thoughts here.
